Just a HOT couple and their HOT Photographer HOT TO GO!

He bought her a star, named it in memory of their

He bought her a star, named it in memory of their fur baby who’s now resting peacefully among all the other stars

She made him a picture book with memories of many firsts: first date, first hike, first move, first anniversary, first goodbye, first shared dream, and first time they realized they were forever.

I spent 2 days with K and J to document memories of the past combined with memories of the next chapter of their unwritten book.

We recreated their first date in downtown Tacoma, went to the dog park where they spent many more dates to relive the memory of their fur baby, hiked to the top of the mountain where they shared vows and scattered their dog’s ashes, then we ended the night under the stars, under the very star that is their forever fur baby.

When it was 11:59pm right before the elopement day would end and it’d turn into just another day, I saw that the Milky Way would align perfectly right above Mt. Baker so I presented the idea to K and J and I’m so glad they were down for this star photo adventure

Jess and Corey inquired for this vow renewal when their daughter was still a size of a kidney bean in J’s belly.

And when I met them by the Amalfi coast for this day, their little one was already crawling and have so many beautiful facial expressions to share with the world

I went into this day wanting to not only take beautiful photographs but also making sure those photos matter.

I want to encapsulate the magic of being new parents for the first time

I want to document what it feels like to be a part of your parents’ special day so that little E can feel these photos when she gets older

I want to preserve a moment in time, a day of their many days, a chapter of their many chapters.

Being nominated is an honor, but being able to capture these moments truly is even a bigger honor than any awards.
I just am grateful that I was invited into their space to capture this day. It is the ultimate trust that any photographer could ever ask for

Vow renewals aren’t making something new out of nothing. Choosing to celebrate your marriage with a vow renewal is choosing to celebrate the relationship that you’ve been building together over the years.

For many of us, to be queer means to choose your own family

Family is often bonded by love not by blood

For K and J, it was both

I love the way they got to spend private time with each other during the most stunning sunrise in the north shore of Kauai

I love the way all of their family and friends got to witness their vows during the most magical rain in the sun in the south shore.

I love the way everyone connected during reception, ran a way from the downpour tropical rain for a sec and then went right back to being together like the rain didn’t even happen.

There’s so much more about this day that I wish I could relive over and over but one thing for sure I will never forget is during this whole day, my inner little gay kid was overwhelmed with joy just from seeing another LGBTQ+ couple get to live authentically as they are, surrounded by love and intentionality.

Whoever you are, I hope these photos let you know you that love exists and you too deserve love even when it might feel tough at times.

I hope you know it gets better

Storytelling is at the heart of elopement & weddin

I have a little moth tattoo on my arm. People ofte

I have a little moth tattoo on my arm. People often asked “Why moth? What’s the significant of it?”

And my answer is quite simple: Just like moths, I’ll find light in the dark.
And I’ll be that light for those who need it the most.

I found the most spectacular light on this day for K and D.

When planning for K and D’s adventure, the number goal wasn’t about the moon and the stars. It was always about the magic of being present, on top of the mountain, shouting the words of love, immersing fully into the experience of committing to another person

But as I was working on their timeline, I saw the way the Milky Way would appear at the exact moment we start hiking down so I presented the idea of photographing 2 hours past sunset time for these photos in the dark

Something about that time of day when the sun softly falls asleep behind the mountains and the stars gently twinkles from above is so calming and inspiring

Maybe it’s the signal that our elopement day is about to end and that we better take it all one last time before it all just becomes another day. Or maybe the darkness allow us to see better, to be more in tune with our emotions, to be free of worries, to focus only on the last couple of moments here, moments that feel as long as the horizon 
This day was a dream and I still remember the look on K and D’s faces when they saw the moon and again when they saw the Milky Way.

We hugged goodbye but it wasn’t really a goodbye. It was the end of a client-photographer relationship and the beginning of a beautiful friendship
