The Best of the West Coast: Oregon vs Washington
Winding roads with ocean views, coastal towns with fresh eats and easy hikes with stunning views, the Oregon Coast has it all and is one of my favorite locations to take my couples for elopements. You might be wondering if there is a difference between the Washington and Oregon Coasts and, if so, which one you should choose for your coastal elopement. While both states have stunning viewpoints and sceneries, the drive down highway 101 is more scenic through Oregon and has an abundance of small towns scattered throughout for you to eat, stay and explore.
With over 360 miles of scenery, the Oregon Coast is the best destination with some of the cutest towns visit. This portion of the west coast is split up into 3 regions within Oregon: the North Coast, Central Coast and South Coast. Each has something unique to offer and the best part is that you can experience all 3 if you have the time.
North Coast
An easy drive from Portland, the North Coast is a very popular region of Oregon with well-known locations like Canon Beach and Manzanita, though I try to avoid these popular spots for my couples’ elopements due to the crowds these beaches draw. This region is filled with distinctive landmarks and historic towns with cute antique shops.
Central Coast
A little farther down is the Central Coast known as the “heart of the Oregon Coast.” If you are looking for a true Oregon coastal experience filled with beach towns and seaside bliss, then this is the region for you. Lighthouses populate the region and there is no shortage of cute coastal towns like Newport, Yachats and Florence.
South Coast
For couples seeking a little more adventure, the South Coast has many beautiful options from coastal forest trails to towering sand dunes. Some of the most secluded and beautiful sceneries lie in this region of the coast making it the perfect place for a coastal adventure elopement.

When is the best time of year to elope on the Oregon Coast?
As with most locations in the PNW, summer – specifically July through September – is an ideal time to visit as the weather is mild with very little rain. Coastal temperatures tend to be more mild than inland temperatures so during the summer months you can expect temperatures ranging in the mid-high 60s. Fog is common in the spring and winter months bringing in that classic PNW mood, but temperatures start to rise in July and August and the warm weather continues into September and even early October.
With the warmer weather comes more visitors so areas may be slightly crowded which is why I work with my couples to help determine the prettiest locations with minimal crowds.
Of course, you can’t visit the coast without experiencing a sunset and Oregon does not disappoint. The colors are spectacular and whether your elopement is located on cliff or a beach, it is the perfect way to end the day!
Why Oregon Coast is the best elopement location with family
If you are planning an elopement with family and friends, I highly recommend the choosing a location on the Oregon Coast. Because many of the spots I take my couples to are on or near the coast, they are relatively easy to walk or hike to making it an ideal option for elopement ceremonies with guests. The locations are easily accessible and provide stunning views making it the best choice all around.
There is also no lack of adventure locations for couples looking to experience a little more on their elopement day. Within a short distance from the views, there are hiking trails ascending to some of Oregon’s most stunning views. This is the place where you can experience beaches and forests in one place!

The Couple and Their Decision To Elope By Oregon Coast
Cassandra and Cintia originally wanted to elope in the Olympic National Park since they wanted the moody, foggy vibe that Olympic National Park coast provides. After learning what the couple would love to have on their day, I did research and found some of the most gorgeous locations for the beautiful brides. I am so glad the couple picked Oregon Coast.
From Hiking to Intimate Dinner Reception, This Is How To Elope By Oregon Coast Adventurously
Although Cassandra and Cintia eloped in December by the Oregon Coast, somehow we got lucky with the most beautiful weather. We didn’t have the foggy vibe as what the couple looked for. But the soft sunlight mixed with the mist from the coast created this magical light that you can’t get anywhere else. The blue of the ocean mixed with the warm sunlight and it was truly heavenly. Cassandra and Cintia started their day with a beautiful ceremony among some giant, jagged rocks. Their fur baby and family witnessed their vows while listening to waves crashing into shore. The couple and I then began our hike for their sunset photos. I have to say, they gave me all their hearts for this adventure elopement since although the trail itself was moderate, the very last part was quite sketchy and not an ideal place for those who are afraid of heights like I am. We ended the night at their cabin where the couple had the most intimate dinner with their loved ones, danced the night away, and laughed with happy tears listening to loving words from everyone.
