Adventurous Engagement Photos in Kauai | Hawaii LGBTQ Intimate Wedding and Elopement Photographer
No one can deny the beauty of this magical island. Kauai is truly my favorite island of Hawaii. So when Emily and Kiersten reached out for their engagement photos, I knew I had to take them along on this adventure to Kauai.
This wasn’t the first time I photographed these beautiful ladies. A couple of years ago, when Emily and Kiersten recently just moved to Seattle, they inquired for a couple photoshoot. We ran around in the snow and the rain of Seattle for some really gorgeous PNW photos. We kept in touch, grabbed dinner one time, and quickly became amazing friends. We even went on vacations together 🙂 I hold our friendship so closely to my heart because this is a testament to exactly what my photography business about: Connections and Relationships.
One of the reasons why Kauai is such a perfect location for their engagement photos is because it’s so different from the moody PNW that I have photographed them in and also so different from their upcoming elopement later this year in New Zealand. Kauai and its tropical vibes are so free-spirited and calming. From Waimea Canyon to Napali Coast, there are just so so so much to explore.
For their Kauai adventure engagement photos, I decided to take Emily and Kiersten on a small hike in the southern part of the island near Poipu. We woke up early and hiked during twilight. Nothing in the world can compare to that feeling when you witness the twilight hours on this magical island, listening the waves, smelling the fresh air of the ocean, and having the wind brushing against your cheeks.
Although we’ve known each other for awhile now, I still wanted to take things slow so the couple can ease themselves into being comfortable in front of my camera. We hiked, we talked, we kept on “oohing” and “ahhing” about all the beautiful views. We were just in awe of everything.
The best memory of this epic adventure engagement session with Emily and Kiersten was when the couple crawled under these jagged rocks. If you have been following my work for awhile, you know how often I talk about how much of a chicken I am. So when these ladies wanted to crawled over to this epic area for photos, and even after I assessed the place to make sure it was safe to do so, I was still feeling like my heart could jump out of my chest. Truly, it was just my anxiety about the whole world.
Emily and Kiersten, thanks for trusting me time and time again for your capturing your love for one another. From printing all the photos I’ve captured for you to constantly cheering me on, your support means so so so much to my heart. I cannot wait to explore New Zealand with you and to photograph you guys on your elopement day. Always remember that we will always be there for you.
