The Couple and Their Decision to Plan a Waimea Canyon Elopement

From the moment they got engaged, Caitlin and Jeremy knew that they wanted to elope in Kauai. These two are very adventurous and, after visiting Hawaii a handful of times, they knew this would be the perfect place to elope!

So, from the very beginning, we started planning their Waimea Canyon elopement. We did not have any other plans besides that. We just went in to their day knowing that we were going to do this trail with the stunning waterfall no matter what.

From a Waterfall Ceremony To Airplane Adventure Photos, This Is How To Plan a Waimea Canyon Elopement

I (Henry) arrived in Kauai a few days before Caitlin and Jeremy’s elopement. One afternoon, while walking around my hotel, I ended up walking behind the airport next door. I saw airplanes flying in and out and immediately snapped some photos and texted the couple asking if they would like to take some photos here with the airplanes. They agreed, so I reworked their timeline to allow us to hold their elopement ceremony at Waimea Canyon and spend the afternoon watching planes fly into Kauai.

Of course, it isn’t a henrysdiary elopement without some blue hour photos so, after watching the airplanes, we headed down to the beach by their hotel. Caitlin and Jeremy had originally wanted some mountain and beach photos and since the resort sat on top of a cliff, this gave the couple the views they had been looking for all along. We popped champagne and brought out the lanterns and ran around the beach until after dark.

Henry’s Elopement Tip

A lot of times when people think about an adventure elopement, they think it has to look a certain way. They may think it requires a lot of hiking or that you have to wear certain clothes or shoes to fit in. But, that’s one elopement myth that just isn’t true.

For her elopement in Waimea Canyon, Caitlin wanted to have a Cinderella moment. She picked out the most amazing dress and sparkly shoes and when I saw all the details laid out, I got so inspired! While the couple was getting ready, I did some fun photos and gifs of her shoes in the sunlight to highlight the details that she brought to the day.

Just because you are planning an adventure elopement, doesn’t mean you can’t also include lots of bling or special details. It’s your day, so plan it however you want!

One of the things I loved was how organic things were, he didn’t have a script of exactly what he wanted, he just saw things as they came up and made the whole process incredibly easy.

Henry is such a kind and inviting person, we knew from the moment we met him that he was the person we wanted to photograph our elopement. He regularly shared information, especially in the couple of months prior to the big day. When we found out last minute that our ideal beach (for sunset photos) was shut down, he immediately sprung into action to find alternative options. He even scouted additional locations when he arrived to Kauai and ended up finding a spot that was so incredible. One of the things I loved was how organic things were, he didn’t have a script of exactly what he wanted, he just saw things as they came up and made the whole process incredibly easy. Our sneak peek photos are nothing short of incredible. He even entertained our photo ideas along the way! Thank you, Henry, for making our day so special!!!
