Joan & Keane
One of my favorite things about being a destination wedding and elopement photographer is not just getting to travel to beautiful places, but also getting the chance to meet couples from all walks of life and hear their beautiful love stories. Getting to meet Joan and Keane during their three-day Fiji elopement was one of the most heartwarming experiences. During their remote elopement in Fiji, we kayaked, jumped into a waterfall, cruised around the island, and witnessed their beautiful love in an equally beautiful location.
The Couple and Their Decision to Plan a Remote Fiji Elopement
Unlike the majority of elopements where we help our couples find beautiful places to elope, Joan and Keane inquired with a location already in mind.
They loved how The Remote Resort in Fiji was so intimate and – yes, just like the name said – remote.
After visiting this resort for Joan and Keane’s Fiji elopement, I (Henry) can truly say it is a lovely boutique hotel with the friendliest staff I’ve ever encountered. And no, I’m not getting paid for saying nice things about them. They truly are such lovely people. In fact, that’s how I felt about Fiji overall.
Although Joan and Keane had a hotel in mind, they didn’t have many of the other details planned out for their elopement in Fiji. This is where I came in to help plan alongside the couple.
Henry’s Tip For Planning a Destination Elopement in Fiji (or Anywhere Other Destination in the World)
When planning a destination elopement at a resort, I often start by researching locations within the resort. Most resorts already have so many beautiful areas around the resort to explore and it’s part of what makes them so special.
With a bit of digging and some Google Maps investigation, I presented Joan and Keane with the idea of jumping into the water next to a waterfall. As these two are quite adventurous, they were just as stoked (if not even more than I was).
In order to have enough time for all of the beauty of Fiji, we planned on a two-day elopement experience. You might think that two-day elopements are only reserved for couples with family and guests. However, in my experience and opinion, you can have your elopement any way you’d like.
In this case for Joan and Keane, even though it was just the two of them for the entire trip, they needed and definitely deserved more than just one day. After all, it took a long time to travel from the U.S. to Fiji so we might as well do it all 🙂
How Joan and Keane’s Two-Day Fiji Elopement Turned Into a Three-Day Experience
As this was my first time ever in Fiji, I arrived two days before Joan and Kean’s wedding day so I could scout more places in person. As the couple had arrived for their Fiji elopement a few days early as well, we got the chance to spend this extra time together while getting to know each other a bit more. We shared life stories over cocktails and coconut water and snorkeled and kayaked together. What was supposed to be a two-day elopement in Fiji turned into a three-day event where I documented the couple with fun, candid photos.
By the time their wedding day arrived, we all felt like old friends. Together we soaked in the magical moments of Joan and Keane’s Fiji elopement while they got to enjoy an elopement and honeymoon trip at one of the most beautiful tropical destinations in the world.
