Melanie & David
I think that life happens for a reason, and some things in life are just meant to be. Whether it’s finding your soulmate on a dating app or aligning with the right elopement photographer at just the right time, some moments simply can’t be planned for. And Melanie and David’s multi-day elopement in the Dolomites? Well, that was one of those moments.
The Couple and Their Decision to Plan a Multi-Day Elopement in the Dolomites
When Melanie and David first reached out, they didn’t have every detail figured out. All they knew was that they wanted a relaxed wedding day and that the landscape would set the entire vision and plan for their day.
These two are big travelers, and Italy had already stolen their hearts. So when they saw that I was going to be in the Dolomites in September, it felt like all the stars had aligned. We hopped on a call, and it quickly became clear that an elopement in the Dolomites was exactly the kind of wedding day they wanted!
From Snowstorms to Sunset Hikes: How Melanie and David’s Multi Day Elopement Unfolded
A multi day elopement wasn’t our original plan for Melanie and David’s wedding in the Dolomites. Originally, they had planned for a full-day elopement, but a week before we arrived in Italy, an early snowstorm blanketed parts of the Alps, making the already unpredictable weather even more uncertain. Some trails were covered in snow—in mid-September.
So, I presented an option to the couple. What if, instead of having a single-day elopement, we planned a multi day elopement? This way, they could experience more beautiful locations and have enough time to enjoy the full experience, especially since we would need to navigate unexpected weather.
These guys were on board, so we pivoted and came up with a new timeline that allowed them to soak in even more of this incredible area!
Day 1: Sunset and Blue Hour in the Mountains
The adventure kicked off with a gondola ride up into the Italian Alps. Melanie and David carried their wedding attire and changed once we got to the top. At the top of the mountain, they shared their first look and even brought out their camera for some fun film photos of each other. After exploring the area, we hopped back onto the gondola to head to our second location.
At this point, it had started to rain, so we brought out the umbrellas to stay dry and embraced the misty clouds as they wrapped around us.
Some couples might have worried about the rain, but not these two. Melanie and David leaned into the moment and danced through the fog until blue hour, where you know we brought out lanterns. 😄 They trusted me and together, we created art that has since become some of my most favorite photos ever.
Day 2: Sunrise at Lago di Braies & Sunset at Cadini di Misurina
The next morning, we woke up early and made our way to Lago di Braies for sunrise.
The rain from the night before had left behind a beautiful fog that made this lake even more moody and magical than usual. The couple danced by the water before heading down to the docks for a wooden rowboat ride around the lake.
Afterward, we headed back to their Airbnb for some quiet moments. Melanie and David sat on the deck, writing their personal vows to each other, making for even more of my favorite photos ever! 😆
That afternoon, we headed out for our final adventure – an evening hike in the mountains. Because of the weather, we had to hike through thick fog. At times, we were unable to see more than 15 feet ahead. Other times, we sat and waited, hoping for the sky to open up, for just a glimpse of the mountains.
Through all the uncertainty that came our way, Melanie and David never wavered. They leaned in, embraced the unknown, and trusted the journey. They trusted me, and together we created magic.
We can’t get enough of the Dolomite mountains! Check out some other real elopements, weddings, and vow renewals in this magical place!
Why Choose a Multi-Day Elopement in the Dolomites?
This was my first time photographing a multi day elopement in the Dolomites. In fact, this was the first Dolomites elopement where I got to hit all the locations in the Dolomites with one couple!
If you’re considering eloping in the Dolomites, here’s why you should consider spreading your adventure across multiple days:
- More freedom, less stress. The Dolomites are big. Instead of rushing from spot to spot or trying to cram everything into a single day, a multi day elopement allows you to have more freedom to visit multiple locations without the stress.
- More relaxed experience. A multi day elopement gives you more time to relax and soak in every moment. Rather than rush from one place to the next, you have time to breathe, take in all the beauty, and be more present for every single moment.
- You get to see more. Most couples who travel to the Dolomites internationally want to see it all. However, most of the time, we can only fit one or two elopement locations in a single day. A multi-day elopement, however, gives you the chance to explore even more locations in this beautiful area.
Planning any elopement is not about how many locations you hit. It’s about how your day feels. It’s about living in the moment and feeling it, so when you look back at your photos, you can remember it exactly as it happened.
Melanie and David’s elopement was proof that sometimes, the best adventures happen when you give them the time to unfold naturally.
