The Couple and Their Decision to Plan a Two Day Wedding on the Oregon Coast

I have been waiting to document this wedding for two years now and I’m so excited to finally be able to share it with you here on the blog!

Kelly and Jessie met when they were both in 6th grade and what started out as a friendship later turned into something more in high school!

When we first connected the brides talked about planning a small wedding in Portland. We ended up rescheduling and changing locations multiple times though due to the pandemic and some hard losses. With the help of Mae&Co and lots of intentional planning, the brides ultimately decided on an intimate wedding on the southern coast of Oregon. They invited a few of their closest friends and family members to witness and had the most elegant wedding day filled with lotssss of flowers!

From an Elegant Wedding with Lots of Flowers To a Day After Session on the Beach, this Is How To Plan a Two Day Wedding Adventurously

When their day finally arrived, everyone was so damn excited to celebrate Kelly and Jessie’s marriage! All throughout the day (and the day after) I could feel it in the couple. I felt it in the way they held each other’s hands during getting ready moments. I felt it in the way they embraced each other during the first look. I felt it in the way they express and receive love not only between each other but also with all their guests.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t cry at this wedding. Jessie and Kelly’s flower-filled wedding was truly one of those times when you arrive and you already feel belonged and loved.

The moments before their first look, I could feel the excitement and anticipation from each of the brides. When photographing each one, I got so excited to hear about how they chose their dresses and how they had such fun elements that they each knew the other would appreciate.

After their first look on the beach, the brides and their guests headed to their wedding ceremony site overlooking the Oregon Coast. Good Seed Floral had created two beautiful floral pillars for their ceremony arch and (as the sustainable queen I am 😂), I repurposed those flowers over and over again for photos throughout the night.

On the 2nd day of Jessie and Kelly’s two day wedding, the couple had an adventure session with me. I surprised them with the sneaks from the day before and seeing their reactions from viewing their wedding photos for the first time was worth everything!

After some cute cuddly photos at their hotel, the brides put on their wedding dresses again and we headed down to a super private little beach. We ran around for a few hours until the sun set giving us the most magical blue hour light and, of course, the Henry lanterns came out!

Kelly and Jessie’s flower-filled wedding was packed with so many beautiful and incredible moments! Thank you both for allowing me to be a part of your experience and for your continued support! I’m so grateful to have met you both.

– Henry

We knew Henry was special from the start – that his work was unmatched by any photographer’s we had seen before, and also, we knew our values aligned.

It’s hard to truly put into words a proper thank you for someone who documented your love in such a special, intentional, and beautiful way. I don’t feel words can do justice to match up to the magic that is Henry Tieu. We hired Henry years ago, when we first got engaged — because after knowing we were going to get married, we also KNEW we had to have Henry as our photographer. We were lucky enough to get to work with him, to have his guidance, easy & smooth communication, and his friendship on our side through the planning process. He made it all SO easy. He met with us via FaceTime, asked about our story, and truly got to know who we were. He shared resources and tips with us. He stuck with us through postponements, venue changes, and overall location and idea changes. And when we met on our wedding day for the first time in real life, it felt like we were catching up with a close friend. He instantly made us feel comfortable, made us feel like being in front of the camera was a natural habitat for us (when in fact it was far from our usual!) and he made it so easy to be ourselves in front of him. To be honest, we never even read his reviews when we hired him, because his previous work, all the articles featuring his work, his Instagram posts, his gif videos, and his captions did it all for us. We knew Henry was special from the start – that his work was unmatched by any photographer’s we had seen before, and also, we knew our values aligned. When jess and I planned our wedding, we wanted every detail, every choice to be intentional. And when we knew Henry was also part of the LGBTQ+ community, when we knew he stood up for human rights, when he was part of the health professional community, when he advocated for COVID vaccines, it was truly the easiest decision in the world to want to work together (and be his friend!) When you’re part of the queer community, you understand the deep need to feel safe and feel seen — and working with someone like Henry did just that.

We hired him for two days, our actual wedding day, and then more last minute added on an adventure shoot post-wedding day, and that was the BEST decision. When we met the second day (literally less than 24 hours since our wedding the night prior) he delivered a TON of wedding sneak peaks for us to go through, and they brought us to tears. He captured my wife’s joy, our families tears, and our friends laughter. He captured our love, the way we looked at one another, and the depth of our care for each other. In just under 100 photos of sneak peaks, he showed us our love through his lens and our loved ones eyes and it truly all made sense.

Our wedding & honeymoon is now over, and we’re waiting with the upmost excitement to see the rest of the gallery, the day after photoshoot, and our gif video, but we already know this to be true — Henry was the best person for the job, the photographer we will recommend to every person we possibly can, and the friend we will thank for decades to come when we reminiscence on our special days, when we look back at these photos, and show our wedding video to future kids & to each other and relish in the joy that is being married.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Henry — your photography and your work moved us, and we are so damn lucky to have gotten our love documented by you.
