Big Sur: The Best Coastal Location For Engagement & Elopement Photos in Northern California
In May, I went to Big Sur to photograph an elopement. I reached out to Allison and Aldo to see if they want to do a road trip from Southern California to Big Sur for their engagement photos and I am so glad they said yes.
Since the couple is supposed to have their adventure elopement in the Pacific Northwest in the Fall, I knew that picking Big Sur for their engagement photos would allow us to create something different than the forest vibe of the PNW.
The thing I love the most about Big Sur is the views here are endless and so versatile. One side of Highway 1 we get the lush green mountains, on the other side, we have beautiful wildflowers over the rugged coastal cliffs. And of course, the best of call would be the beautiful beaches between Monterey and Big Sur. This is why Big Sur is such a perfect place to photograph and capture engagement, wedding, and elopement photos.
We went in late May and the weather was still moody. We got sun, we got fog, we got wind. Everything just kept on changing on us within minutes and by the early evening, we were surrounded by thick layers of fog. Something about the moody weather makes my little heart of a moody photographer so happy and I am so happy Allison and Aldo felt the same way. Hey, moody weather = perfect light for photos 🙂
I took the couple on an early evening adventure where the couple could immerse themselves into the beauty of Big Sur for their engagement photos. Living in SoCal, the couple was happy to break away from the heat and put on extra layers for their engagement photos. We hiked along the coast and exchanged life stories. We all stopped multiple times along the trail and pulled out our cellphones to take photos (although I had a professional camera in my hand 🤣), I can’t help it and I can’t blame my couple either, something about this place that is so magical we all had to get some quick photos to document these moments.
Allison and Aldo, November cannot come soon enough so we all can reunite again and this time run around the Pacific Northwest for your elopement photos. In the meantime, take care! I miss you guys everyday.
