Kasey & Mark

It was 99 degrees in Greece.

A heat wave followed by a windstorm…the kind of storm that grounds planes and ferries, and kept Kasey and Mark’s guests from reaching Milos, their wedding island. The kind of storm that forced us to shift timelines and to face a version of the day that didn’t look like the one we had dreamed of.

It made us anxious. It tested us. Yet somehow, it made us more human.

Because even when some of their guests got stranded, Kasey and Mark didn’t give up. They rerouted, rebooked, and reimagined what was possible for their 2-day destination wedding in Milos, Greece.

Yes, it stung when Mother Nature threw us a curveball. But they still found ways for everyone to savor this moment, to swim in it, to dance in it, and to remember it forever.

The Couple and Their Decision to Plan a Destination Wedding in Milos, Greece

Kasey is an elopement photographer who photographs couples all over the world and hosts content days in places like Positano, Patagonia, Switzerland, and the Dolomites. She’s seen the world through a lens that not a lot of people get to witness.

So when it came to planning their own wedding experience, Kasey and Mark initially thought they wanted to get married in the Dolomites. But not long into planning, they realized that they didn’t want to show up to a place that felt like work. They wanted somewhere different, somewhere they hadn’t already photographed before.

That’s when they chose a destination wedding in Milos, Greece. The island had the same dramatic beauty as many of the locations they had traveled to together, but it also offered them a completely new experience filled with white volcanic beaches, clear blue water, and cliffside views that felt entirely new.

As their destination wedding photographer, working with Kasey and Mark was a new experience for me also. With Kasey being such a planner and the couple already have a clear idea of what they wanted, my usual role as photographer and planner shifted. Instead of guiding them through every decision, I took on more of the role of a photographer. I listened and took notes on what mattered to them. I scouted locations for their vision, and focused on being exactly what they needed: a photographer who could capture the specific moments that mattered the most to them.

Kasey and Mark’s Two-Day Destination Wedding in Greece

Day One: Dancing Through the Storm on a Catamaran

Day one of this Greece destination wedding was meant to be pure fun for the couple and their loved ones. Kasey and Mark had chartered two catamarans to take 30 of their family and friends to explore the iconic places around Milos.

But Greece had other plans.

The two days leading up to their celebration, the island experienced some of the craziest winds it had seen in years. About a third of their guests couldn’t even make it to Milos and were stuck in Athens and other cities, trying to reroute. The morning of the boat excursion, we confirmed with the captain that it was safe to go out, but some guests who had made it to the island decided to stay on land.

So, what once had been two boats became just one. The couple’s excitement was mixed with disappointment as they realized not everyone would experience what they’d so carefully planned.

The minute we got out on the water, the wind stopped. The Aegean Sea calmed, and we danced to ABBA while Kasey lived out her Mamma Mia moment. Everyone jumped into the crystal blue water, laughed, and created exactly the kind of memory Kasey and Mark had hoped for – just with fewer people than expected.

It reminded me that sometimes the best moments don’t happen despite the chaos. They happen because of how you choose to move through it.

Day Two: A Cliffside Ceremony and Midnight Pool Jump

By the next day, more of their guests had arrived, safe and ready to celebrate. The ceremony took place exactly where Kasey had requested it to be: not at the resort’s typical beach location tucked against the mountain wall, but by the pool – on the cliff, overlooking the dramatic coastline with the Aegean Sea stretching out to the horizon.

As the sun began to set, their ceremony unfolded with views of the sea stretching out before them. There were tears during the vows – from Kasey, from Mark, from their guests. Some were even mine, but most were from the people they love most.

After their ceremony, we took some time for sunset portraits at Sarakiniko Beach before returning to their villa for what the couple had been most excited about: the dance party under the stars.

They had a saxophonist who played live music over the soundtracks, creating this atmosphere where we were listening to the ocean, feeling the breeze against our skin, dancing under the moon with live music wrapping around everything.

Then, as midnight approached, came the grand finale that Kasey had been most excited about: everyone jumping into the pool – wedding attire and all. After a day that hit 99 degrees and after all the anxiety and rerouted flights, they ended the night exactly where they wanted to be – in the water, laughing and celebrating together.

What This Destination Wedding in Greece Taught Me

Kasey and Mark started traveling as elopement photographers early in their relationship. Mark handled logistics while Kasey captured couples’ stories. They’ve seen so much of the world together, but their family never had. This wedding wasn’t just about celebrating their marriage – it was about introducing the people they love to the kind of life they’ve built, the beauty they’ve witnessed, and the experiences that have shaped who they are together.

That’s why they booked two boats (even though the wind reduced it to one). That’s why they made sure their guests came prepared. That’s why every detail – from the cliffside ceremony location to the saxophonist under the stars – was chosen with intention.

Greece was stunning, but what made this destination wedding even more beautiful was the way everyone showed up. With messy hair and open hearts. With sand on their skin and joy in their eyes. With the kind of laughter that only comes from knowing you’re a part of something rare and real.

The thing about destination weddings is that they test you. The weather doesn’t always cooperate. Flights sometimes get delayed. Plans may change. But in the end, they remind you what matters most. Not the plan. Not the place. But the people and the love you all share.

Kasey and Mark, thank you for showing me what it looks like to plan with both your heart and your expertise. Thank you for caring so deeply about your guests’ experience, for fighting for the ceremony location that mattered, for dancing through the windstorm and jumping into the pool at midnight. Your wedding reminded me why I do this work – not just to capture epic landscapes, but to document the intentional love and care that goes into creating meaningful celebrations.
