From moody and rugged Pacific coastlines to snow-capped mountain peaks to red rocks in the high desert, Oregon offers some of the most diverse elopement landscapes in the country.
As adventure elopement photographers, we’ve photographed elopements and weddings all over Oregon, so when couples ask us, “Where are the best places to elope in Oregon?”, we tell them this. The best location for you isn’t the most popular spot or the most Instagrammed view. It’s the landscape that matches your vision and the place that makes you feel something when you imagine saying your vows there.
This guide shares some of the Oregon elopement locations we know best, along with practical information about timing, access, and what to expect at each spot. Whether you’re drawn to the coast, the mountains, the waterfalls, or the desert, Oregon for sure has a place for you!

Best Coastal Places to Elope in Oregon
In our opinion, the Oregon coastline has some of the most beautiful views in the Pacific Northwest. For those who haven’t been here, these beaches are nothing like the typical ones you might see. From haystack rocks to jagged cliffs, you simply have to see this place for yourself.
Cannon Beach & Manzanita Beach
What makes it special: Iconic scenery, beach vibes, dramatic sea stacks
Some of the most popular places to elope on the Oregon Coast that you’ve probably heard of are Cannon Beach and Manzanita Beach. These beaches are stunning, but one thing to keep in mind: if you’ve heard of it, it’s probably crowded with tourists.
Cannon Beach is the closest coastal spot to Portland (about 1 to 1.5 hours from the city). This area has lots of local restaurants and shops, and it’s known to be a tourist destination. Some couples choose to stay around here for easy access to groceries and food, then venture to other areas for their ceremony and portraits.
If the Oregon beaches are what you’re interested in, we can take you to more private areas so your elopement can be more intimate.
Best time of year to get married: Fall months for those moody PNW vibes, though spring and summer are equally beautiful. Just know that June-August are the busiest months, while winter brings smaller crowds.
Best for couples who: Want beach vibes without traveling too far from Portland.
Permits: Unless you’re getting married in a state park, most places around here won’t require a permit (not even a parking permit). Just be sure to have your Oregon Marriage License, and you’re good to go!
Southern Oregon Coast
What makes it special: Dramatic cliff views, less crowded than northern beaches, proximity to redwood forests
The Southern Oregon Coast offers some of the most dramatic views in the state. Areas like Brookings and Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor give you rugged cliffs, natural rock arches, and secluded coves. Depending on where exactly you want to elope, some of the more beautiful places are located around 2 to 3 hours from Portland, but we would 100% recommend these spots over Cannon Beach for better crowd control!
A bonus when it comes to eloping on the Oregon Coast is that if you love forests as much as you love the ocean, the Southern Oregon Coast gives you access to both. The California redwoods are nearby, offering an entirely different landscape for your adventure elopement portraits.
Best time of year to get married: Although all the seasons are a good time to visit the Oregon Coast, fall is our favorite season for dramatic, moody weather and smaller crowds.
Best for couples who: Want dramatic coastal cliffs, fewer crowds, and the option to incorporate redwood forests.
Permits (Updated for 2026): At this time, Oregon State Parks has decided to waive parking fees at over 225 state parks. While you shouldn’t need a special use permit or parking permit, be sure to check their website for any updates prior to your elopement.

Important note about Natural Bridges: One beautiful location on the Oregon Coast that you might see posted on our website or other places on the internet is Natural Bridges. In 2022, the state of Oregon officially closed this site and put up a “Do Not Cross” sign due to several deaths that occurred on this trail. While we are sad that this beautiful place is no longer available, we never want to endanger our couples or break the law trying to take beautiful photos. Natural Bridges might not be available anymore, but we still have tons more beautiful locations to share with you when we start planning together.

Best Forest & Mountain Elopement Locations in Oregon
Mount Hood
What makes it special: Forested ceremonies with mountain backdrops, alpine meadows, year-round snow-capped peaks
Mount Hood is iconic for a reason. As Oregon’s tallest peak, the mountain creates a stunning backdrop for ceremonies. The surrounding forests and meadows also offer an incredible variety for your elopement portraits. From Trillium Lake reflections to wildflower meadows to old-growth forests, eloping here means you can get so many different looks in one location!
Best time of year to get married: Late spring through early fall for the best trail access. Wildflower meadows bloom in July and August. Fall brings golden colors and smaller crowds.
Best for couples who: Want classic Pacific Northwest mountain views with forests and alpine meadows.
Permits: Some trails and day-use areas around Mount Hood may require a Northwest Forest Parking Permit (typically $5-10 for a day pass); however, no special use permit is needed for weddings and elopements with fewer than 75 guests.

Columbia River Gorge
What makes it special: Waterfalls, lush greenery, easy access from Portland
If you’re looking for an easy-to-access nature location for your elopement, this is it! With a quick hop onto I-84, you can spend anywhere between half an hour and an hour driving along this beautiful highway. It connects downtown Portland to Mount Hood and boasts some of the most iconic scenery in Oregon.
One of the main things that the Columbia River Gorge is known for is its waterfalls. You’ve probably heard of Multnomah Falls, but there are so many more you can find around this area: Latourell Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Wahclella Falls, and so many more. Truly, if you ever consider a waterfall for your elopement, you have to do it in Oregon 🙂
Best time of year to get married: While this Oregon elopement location is beautiful year-round, some of our favorite months to visit are between April and August. In the spring months, the wildflower fields are in full bloom, while warmer temperatures come in the late summer months. In September and October, the crowds start to disappear, and the fall foliage creates a stunning backdrop!
Best for couples who: Want waterfall backdrops and easy access from Portland without a long drive or difficult hike.
Permits: You won’t need a ceremony permit to elope in the Columbia River Gorge, but depending on the exact location, you may need a parking permit. Check out this website for more Northwest Forest Parking Permit information.
Important to know: Some of the trails in this area are quite easy to get to, and many are quite close to downtown Portland. So what does that mean? It means this place CAN GET CROWDED EASILY. If you come here on a sunny weekend, you’ll have difficulty finding parking. Timing is crucial in this area, so you can have the most intimate elopement with beautiful views. When you work with us, we can also share some other lesser-known locations nearby that offer more privacy.
If the Columbia River Gorge sounds like your ideal Oregon elopement location, then you need to see this waterfall wedding at Rowena Crest!
Best Places to Elope in Central Oregon (and Other Unique Spots Around the State)
Bend & Smith Rock State Park
What makes it special: Desert-like landscapes, rugged mountains, dramatic red rock formations
Yes, the desert does exist in the PNW! Just like Washington, most of the middle and eastern sides of Oregon are high desert. Some of these places are even surrounded by rugged mountains with beautiful lakes on top, which contain some amazing viewpoints you won’t find anywhere else but the Pacific Northwest.
Smith Rock State Park is one of the most iconic desert landscapes in Oregon, offering dramatic red rock formations just like you’d find in the southwest and stunning views that look nothing like the coast or the forests.
Best time of year: As with most summertime months in PNW locations, Smith Rock can get crowded – and because it’s the desert, it also gets quite hot. We prefer spring or fall as the weather during these months tends to be much cooler, and the crowds aren’t quite as high as in the summertime.
Best for couples who: Want something completely different from the typical PNW green and moody aesthetic. Perfect for adventurous couples who love hiking and desert landscapes!
Permits: Permits are often required for weddings at Smith Rock State Park, but you’ll need to contact the park directly in order to confirm whether or not one is needed for your event.
Important to know: Since Central Oregon is quite a drive from Portland, we recommend flying right into one of the local airports, such as Medford (MFR). While this airport is smaller, flying here would save you time. The town of Bend, Oregon, also offers some cool restaurants and breweries, so if you’re not interested in visiting Portland, this is a perfect place to relax and hang out after your elopement.
Crater Lake National Park
What makes it special: The deepest lake in the United States, incredibly blue water, dramatic caldera views
Full disclosure: We haven’t photographed an elopement at Crater Lake National Park yet, but it’s absolutely on our list! The water here is some of the bluest you can imagine, and the dramatic volcanic landscape creates an unforgettable backdrop. The lake sits inside a volcanic caldera (a crater) surrounded by cliffs and peaks, and that combination of elements is just stunning.
Best time of year: Late summer through early fall (typically late August through October) when the snow has melted, and the roads are open and accessible. Because the park sits at a higher elevation (over 7,000 feet), snow can linger well into June, and roads close in winter.
Best for couples who: Want a truly unique Oregon landscape that combines mountain views with an iconic blue lake.
Permits: If you are planning to get married at Crater Lake, you will need to apply for a special use permit. The cost of the permit is $50, and you’ll want to apply at least 8 weeks in advance. You’ll also need to pay an entrance fee ($20-$30, depending on the time of year you visit) for every vehicle in your group.
How to Choose Your Oregon Elopement Location
With so many incredible places to elope in Oregon, where do you even start?
We always tell couples to think about the landscape that calls to you. Do you dream of ocean waves and dramatic cliffs? Forest ceremonies surrounded by moss and ferns? Mountain peaks and alpine meadows? High desert rock formations?
Then consider the practical stuff.
- How far do you want to travel from a major airport?
- Will your elopement include any guests, and/or do you want an easy, accessible location, or are you up for a challenging hike?
- Does privacy matter, or are you okay with other people around? Some locations are only accessible at certain times of year, so timing matters.
- Do you want to incorporate adventure activities like hiking or rock climbing into your day? Some locations are better for this than others.
