The Couple and Their Decision to Get Married at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Canada

Being married to a planner, I get to learn so much about wedding planning that, as an intimate wedding and elopement photographer, I would not have otherwise known.

Samantha and Jake inquired and booked both Rain and Pines and me for their Lake Louise wedding in Alberta, Canada, long before we knew whether or not the border would be open for their wedding day.

We got a date and we all didn't really know for sure if our Plan A would work out.

It took 1.5 years of planning before their wedding day became a reality. From meeting for the first time in a little coffee shop in LA to the couple flying up to Seattle multiple times so we can plan better over Thai food and boba, I truly got to hear their story and the intentional touches behind every detail.

I got to hear stories about the couple and about how they have supported each other through all the hurdles life throws their way. I also got to witness how they both express and receive love, long before their wedding day.

I even got to hear about their loved ones; their friends; their "people", so on their wedding weekend, I knew exactly how to document not only moments but also the emotions of everyone around them.

The thing about wedding photos is that we only see the surface. When you scroll on social media, you see the highlight of the day because there isn't enough space and words to truly share with you everything that it took for this day to happen like: the time we all invested, the kind of work each vendor provides, the way we planned, and replanned, and steered into directions that both excited and humbled all of us.

This wedding planning journey with Samantha and Jake was a humbling and honoring experience and I am so excited that, after almost two years, I finally get to share their beautiful day with you all!

I don’t need to tell you how magical Samantha and Jake’s Lake Louise wedding was (I’ll let the photos do the work) but this wedding would not have been possible without all the amazing Alberta, Canada wedding vendors who showed up to make this day happen!

From the getting ready moments with the bride’s hair and makeup artists to the curve runway and the wedding ceremony filled with flowers from their amazing florist to the wedding reception dinner at their luxury venue, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise planned by Rain and Pines, and all the other intentional details and traditions, each and every wedding vendor showed up to help create a magical day for this couple!

Since the wedding day was packed with activities with friends and family, we didn't get to do many portraits (maybe I’ll save those for part two) but we did manage to sneak in a few moments with just the couple as the sun went down. With only mins to spare I was able to sneak in some cute portraits of the couple enjoying the last couple of minutes before the light disappeared. (And yes, in case you’re wondering, I do bring my lanterns to all destinations 🙂).

I'm not sure there are words to truly articulate what it's like to work with Henry, but I'm going to do my best because THE WORLD deserves to know how incredible Henry is. A rare, beautiful mind backed up by insane artistic talent.

We got married in the Canadian Rockies, and we came into the planning process knowing that we should expect the unexpected when it came to weather. It could be sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy...no way to know. We just had to mentally prepare ourselves and literally plan for any of the above. This uncertainty is why we ultimately decided to work with Henry. Regardless of weather conditions, Henry creates MAGIC for his couples. Knowing this created peace of mind throughout the planning process and our actual time with Henry.

From our initial meeting with Henry to planning to our actual wedding, Henry was a dream. He was extremely communicative, helped scout the perfect locations (taking into account our personal limitations), shared so many helpful resources, and went above and beyond to ensure we were happy. Henry is thoughtful, intentional, and put in the time/heart to build a genuine relationship with us. He met up with us multiple times leading up to the wedding to share laughs, life stories, and good food. This was incredibly helpful and meaningful in terms of comfort in front of the camera...we're not models...but we had Henry making us feel comfortable and beautiful. This shone through in our incredible photos. Henry also handled getting all the necessary approvals and permits, so we didn't have to worry about a thing. I can't emphasize enough the importance of this.

Our biggest problem is figuring out which photos to print and frame because we have so many incredible ones...and this is just from our sneaks! We know there are so many more breathtaking photos to come in our final gallery.
