Jessica & Colton

It’s wild to imagine but Jessica and Colton’s 2-day mountain micro wedding had total opposite weather each day, and somehow, that made their love story even more beautiful to document.

In the midst of a typical Washington summer heat wave, the couple basked in their loved ones’ warm embrace during day one. Every detail of this day, from clearing out the farm to setting up all the decorations, was brought to life by their family.

Then on the second day, where they got to spend quality time with one another, we were all covered in a thick layer of fog until the very end, where the sun somehow poked through and gave us an amazing sunset.

Through it all, Jessica and Colton went all in… rain or shine, warm or cold.

The Couple and Their Decision to Plan a Mountain Micro Wedding in Washington

When they first reached out, Jessica and Colton’s mountain micro wedding vision was simple: “We hope for something that is simple, intimate, and beautiful. We want meaningful time that is just for us, including private vows. However, it’s still important to us to incorporate our close family for some part of this.”

For their backdrop, they wanted mountains with some water…something that felt majestic and awe-inspiring.

Most importantly, though, they wanted their genuine selves to shine through. They didn’t want many of the “posed” or “traditional” moments, but real interactions like coffee-time while getting ready or whiskey in the evening while chatting. So, we hopped on the phone and began planning two of the most magical, intimate days in the Washington mountains centered around all these experiences and more.

From Family Celebration To Private Adventure: This Is How To Plan a Micro Wedding in the Mountains

Day One: An Intimate Wedding Ceremony & Reception on their Family Property

One of the things that made Jessica and Colton’s mountain micro wedding truly special was their venue. The couple’s reception was held on Jessica’s parents’ property, and even though it had been recently purchased, it was a special location that held deep family meaning.

What made it even more meaningful was all the shared time and attention that went into preparing for the wedding. The day before their wedding, the entire family was cutting grass, cleaning the space, and preparing everything together. For them, it wasn’t just about having a beautiful micro mountain wedding; it was about creating space for intentional moments with the people who matter most.

On that first day together, we focused entirely on family and their celebration. The couple got ready with their loved ones, and Jessica wore the most stunning floral Rue de Seine dress that perfectly matched the floral vibe they had at their reception.

Day Two: Intimate Airbnb Couple Photos and a Foggy Sunset Adventure

While day one was all about the experience with their guests, day two was just for the couple. Instead of just meeting up for sunset photos, we spent the entire day together, starting with intimate moments at the couple’s Airbnb. During those first few hours, we eased into the day with quiet morning moments that created space for the couple to just be together and soak in the feelings of being married.

In the afternoon, we ventured into the mountains for their private vows. When we started, the trail was foggy, creating this ethereal, almost mystical atmosphere, and we weren’t quite sure what views we were going to get. But none of that mattered because what we were really there to document was already happening all around us.

Once we got to the top of the trail, Jessica and Colton changed into their wedding attire and began reading their private vows. Out of the fog, a mountain goat appeared on the trail above them! Thank you, Misty Cloud the Goat, for being a witness on this day 🙂

We kept exploring all the way up until blue, and that’s when the real magic happened. All of a sudden, the fog lifted and revealed the most amazing sunset we could have asked for. A truly epic ending to two incredible days.

Henry’s Elopement Tip

One of the biggest misconceptions about two-day mountain micro weddings is that people your experience and timeline have to look a certain way.

People often think the wedding day will be the day with more hours, and the adventure day will be just a couple of hours of sunset photos. But for Jessica and Colton, we actually spent more time on their private adventure day than on the day with all their guests and reception.

The beauty of a mountain micro wedding is that we can modify your timeline in a way that allows you to do whatever you would like to do, even if it doesn’t look like what is traditionally done.

He was so helpful throughout the entire process…We knew we could reach out whenever we had questions.

We had the most amazing experience with Henry as our intimate wedding photographer! My husband and I initially decided the photography and an intimate experience were the most important pieces to us for our wedding. Henry exceeded all of our expectations. He was so helpful throughout the entire process – helping us pick a hike for our day, determining the agenda, and giving us tips throughout. We knew we could reach out whenever we had questions. On the day of he made us and our families feel so comfortable and everyone commented on what a wonderful experience it was. We had the joy of getting to spend 2 days with Henry and love that we had the extra time. The first day we could focus on family and the second day could just be for me and my husband. We so appreciated Henry’s willingness and ability to accomodate the 2 days and make both feel so special. Our sneak photos were absolutely incredibly and far exceeded our expectations, and we cannot wait to see the full gallery!
