If I had to pick just one island to visit in Hawaii, it would have to be Kauai. All of the Hawaiian islands have something unique to offer, but no one can deny the special beauty and magic that is Kauai.
Kauai has so many amazing beach locations for an elopement or an engagement photoshoot in Hawaii. Many of the beaches on Kauai require very minimal hiking (it’s more like walking really) and are very secluded, giving complete privacy.

A Surprise Proposal & A Beautiful Engagement Photoshoot in Kauai
Planning a surprise proposal is always exciting, but planning this Hawaii proposal with Brad was especially fun because I had already met the couple.
I met Alexis when I hosted my very first elopement photography workshop. My first impression of her was: She’s like a warm sunset on a tropical island - she’s full of warmth in her heart and she always makes sure those around her can get feel that warmth in theirs too. After a full day of learning and photographing in the rain, all of us sat down and shared stories by the fireplace. That was when I get to hear hers and hear about Brad.
These two then signed up for my workshop in 2020 and of course, we couldn’t make that happen. So when Brad reached out wanting to plan a surprise proposal, I was beyond excited to see them again.
He didn’t have a location in mind so I suggested the idea of a Hawaii proposal in Kauai: a place where the tropical sunset shines as bright and warm as Alexis is.
On the afternoon of the proposal, we coordinated a location near the beach. I hid in the bushes for the surprise proposal and yes, my knees were shaking and my heart was pounding out of my ass.
After months of planning and all kind of coordinates sharing, the moment had finally arrived. Alexis didn’t have a clue what was happening and was completely surprised when Brad got down on one knee.
After all the happy tears and we finally got enough time to calm our hearts down, I took the couple to the beach for their engagement photoshoot where we witnessed the best sunset ever.
One of my favorite moments of the day happened towards the end of the evening. The couple just embraced the last light of the day and took everything in one last time to remember this day.
No words can describe the feeling of being a part of these guys’ journey, both in photography business and in life. Alexis and Brad are both incredible photographers and I am beyond honored to have been a part of their story.
Congrats again you two and thank you for trusting me with all your hearts! Can’t wait for your elopement in Oregon next year!
