The Couple and Their Decision to Elope in Iceland

Sometimes when couples inquire, they already have an idea of where they want to elope. It can be a special place that they are already familiar with such as where they got engaged or where they went on their first date, or it can be somewhere completely new that they have never been before.

When Cindy and Andy inquired with me, they were completely open to any location so when I suggested an elopement in Iceland they were immediately on board.

We hopped on a call and started planning and before we knew it, the time had arrived for these two to get married in one of the most magical places ever!

From Eating Hot Dogs in the Car To Licking Icebergs on the Black Sand Beach, this Is How To Elope In Iceland Adventurously

The day Cindy and Andy eloped was exactly what I had envisioned an elopement in Iceland would be like. We experienced it all from canyons to glaciers to waterfalls to black sand beaches and these two gave me their all, making for the most incredible day filled with memories!

The thing about eloping in Iceland is that the weather there is very similar to the weather in the Pacific Northwest. It changes by the minute and you can't really trust any weather apps. As I drove to Cindy and Andy’s cabin that morning, the rain outside got heavier. If you have been following my work for a while, you can see that I am no stranger to unexpected weather but still, something inside me wanted to make sure my couple can have a day they will never forget, I still wanted to make sure they can get more than just photos, I wanted to make sure their experience matters. So I was worried of course. Not for myself or my gears, but worried about the couple.

When I finally arrived at their cabin, the first thing the couple said when they welcomed me in was "Rain is good luck" and we embraced each other with the warmest hug. These two weren’t going to let the weather hold them back from having the incredible day they had always dreamed of.

While the couple finished getting ready, I started on their detail photos. I have to say that everything from their leather ring boxes to the leather vow books was some of the best elopement accessories I have ever seen. The color palette and everything were just so magical, and I could tell the couple had really been intentional about everything they selected.

We headed out and drove a couple of hours to our first location. As we drove across the beautiful countryside, we stopped and shared some gas station hot dogs and countless cups of coffee. It was truly one of my favorite memories from the day.

We arrived at their location and started hiking up a beautiful green trail to get to their ceremony spot. When we first planned for Cindy and Andy’s destination elopement, I knew I wanted to take the couple away from the typical Iceland spots (the ones where tour buses can get to and hence it can get busy fast.) I'm so grateful Cindy and Andy allowed me to pick this spot for their elopement in Iceland. Along the way, we saw views of a glacier and also experienced a canyon and waterfalls. Best of all, there were only 4 other people hiking this trail so we got complete privacy in the most amazing landscape.

After the couple exchanged their private vows, we headed to two more locations finishing the day at a black sand beach surrounding an icy lagoon. The beach was filled with tons of little icebergs so, of course, I made the couple pick one up and lick it. 🙂

All in all, we were awake for 22 hours for this elopement in Iceland and I wouldn’t have done it any other way. We saw mountains, listened to birds chirping, felt the rain on our skin, licked the icebergs on a black sand beach, and truly just lived every single moment of this day.

Andy and Cindy, I’m so so grateful for you both. Your smiles and energy are infectious in the best way. Thank you for trusting in me, for allowing me to be a part of your forever story, and for giving me all your hearts. Congratulations again on your beautiful elopement day!

Kind words from the couple:

Wow, we don't even know where to begin. We first found Henry on instagram when we were debating about what exactly we wanted to do (traditional wedding vs. elopement). We were in awe just by scrolling through his pictures. How can EVERY single photo be so beautiful?! We never thought that we could be a part of such a work of art.

From the time we first connected with Henry to the day of our elopement, Henry was always very genuine and transparent with everything. His communication was great. Anytime we needed anything he was always there. Henry was actually the one who suggested our elopement in Iceland. We never thought in a million years that this would be where we would say our vows!

Even though this was both our first time in Iceland, everything was perfect. Henry really guided us through the whole process and made us feel comfortable on such an important day. Not only is Henry a great photographer, but he also works to build a friendship and connection with you. Thank you thank you thank you so much for being you and taking part in one of the happiest days of our life.
